A Ray Tracer for optimizing solar concentrating systems: The case of discretized Compound Parabolic Concentrator

Concentrating solar systems use reflective surfaces to concentrate sunlight onto a small area, where it is absorbed and converted heat. Many classes of concentrating collectors such as Compound Parabolic Concentrators (CPCs), parabolic dish trough are available, each with different ratio maximum absorber temperature, depending on the type applications. A simplified 3D Concentrator (CPC) 2 rings 4 sectors has been designed. The designed CPC cost effective requires only 8 mirrors cover reflector surface. It does not require sun tracking, but have capability accept incoming radiation over relatively wide range angles. For further capturing radiations, tilting during day can be made few times. This study aims model discretized using ray tracing, optimize for achieving optimal interceptions 0.2 m diameter cylindrical absorber, placed inside CPC. tracing methodology presented together results Results show effect very strong interception values slightly reduced curves little bit symmetric around normal
